The best part of TY?

After a well-earned two week Easter break, we returned to school for possibly one of the best parts of TY so far; driving lessons!

This morning, class Ariel headed off to Leinster Driving School for a fun day while learning the basics of being behind the wheel!

We were divided into 2 groups. To start, we began with a mock theory test in groups of three, which proved to be more difficult than we thought. After that, we tried on 'Beer Goggles' which are basically glasses that give the effect that you're drunk. While wearing these, we had to carry out a few simple, everyday tasks and it was so hard! We all had great fun watching each other make fools out of ourselves.

Then we had our chance to get behind the wheel which was not as hard as I thought. We learned how to start, stop, turn and use the gears etc.; it was a lot of fun.

Then we reluctantly hopped back on the bus and came back to school.

We all had a great day and we are all really looking forward to driving again!

My Thoughts on TY

This post is going to be all about my thoughts on TY so far! Seeing as the third years are making their choices now of whether or not to do TY, I decided it would be a useful post for them!

So far, I have really enjoyed TY. We have gone on so many trips, for example, we went to Carlingford, into town for the Holly Days collection for the ISPCC, to Mullingar for the Briery Gap competition and we also went to a really interesting road safety talk.

I am also really enjoying the work experience. We are just about to finish up our second work experience of the year and I cannot believe that we only have one more to go! Work experience has really benefited me, as I feel I have a better idea of what career I may like to go into and I also feel that I have matured and grown as a person because of it. The best part of work experience for me is the fact that I was able to get a regular Saturday job from it, which is the best thing that happened to me recently.

TY is brilliant because it gives you lots of free time to achieve other things outside of school, for example, I'm going to get my driver theory test done before I go into 5th year. If I wasn't in TY, I wouldn't have the time to achieve this. We are also doing Gaisce this year, as a group, which we wouldn't have time to do if it wasn't for TY. I hope that this post has been beneficial to some of you if you are trying to decide whether or not to do TY. Good luck with your choice!

Briery Gap

Tomorrow all of the TY classes will be taking a trip to the Mullingar Arts Centre for the Briery Gap Drama Competition! Each class has a certain number of groups who have been planning, writing and rehearsing  an original drama since September.

The drama process has been reallly interesting as we have all learned how to write a script, perform as different characters and also how to use lighting and music to really set the mood of each scene!

I'm a little nervous about getting up and acting infront of an audience, but at the same time I am really looking forward to the experience!

I really hope one of the dramas from our school will get through to the final in Cork in the coming months!

Somewhere I'd love to visit!

As part of the January blog challenge, we are required to write about a place we would like to visit when we leave school. There is one place I have always wanted to visit and that is Austria!

I want to go to Austria for many reasons, but most of all, to ski! I have always wanted to go skiing because I love cold weather and snow. I think the idea of skiing is so nice and it seems like so much fun! The warm and cosy log cabins accompanied by hot chocolate and a roaring fire appeal to me like nothing else. The ski resort I really want to go to is called St Anton am Arlberg and is located in Tyrol. It is quite a famous resort.

I would also love to see places like Schonbrunn Palace, Hallstatt, Grossglockner Alpine Road and Innsbruck Altstadt.

I hope that someday I will get the opportunity to go to Austria on a ski/sight seeing holiday! It would be an amazing experience that I would never forget!

Exciting Blog Challenge: Oscars 2015

Our I.T. teacher has just set us a challenge of blogging about one of the Oscar nominated films this year. The challenge is to view one of the films and to write a review of it afterwards on our blog!
There are so many great films that have been nominated, I don't know how I'll choose one to see. Look out for the review coming on my blog soon as it may help you decide what to go and see in the cinema next!

January Blog Challenge!

The January blog challenge requires us to write a post about something we have done to help the environment and also to write a post about our community and school.

I help the environment by walking to places instead of driving (if I can) and also by recycling and composting things like paper, plastic wrappers and fruit/vegetable peelings. It is so important to look after the environment and recycle so that we can have a healthy life on a healthy planet!

Now about my school and community. Obviously, I go to St. Wolstan's and I am a member of the TY community at the school. We are a close community and we all get on very well with each other!

The community of our entire school together is also very close, after all, it is a COMMUNITY school! We all share a common interest, that being the enjoyment of coming into school to see our friends every day! The St. Wolstan's community is a community that I love being a part of and I hope future students will too!
